Waddow Lodge Garden

We are open throughout the year for organised groups and individuals to visit by prior arrangement. Groups will be able to enjoy a conducted garden tour by Peter with refreshments being served afterwards.

Peter Foley who for over 30 years has run Holden Clough Nursery has now turned his attention to something new for the Ribble Valley. At Waddow Lodge Garden the plantings have been revitalised and extended to provide a garden of interest for all tastes as well as an informative educational tour.

The garden is now host to many hundreds of his plants collected over the past 40 years including herbaceous perennials, grasses, old fashioned and modern roses and shrubs, heathers and rhododendrons, dwarf conifers and alpines plus shade loving perennials and bulbs along with fruit and vegetables in a new kitchen garden area. In addition a small orchard of classic old apple varieties, many native to Yorkshire and Lancashire is being established as a small wildflower area whilst a wet meadow further down the garden now boasts a new pond and stream with ample wild flowers and associated plants to encourage wildlife into the garden.

Informative weatherproof labelling is gradually being installed throughout the garden as time allows.

The whole garden is managed by Peter and his fiancée Liz Dean on organic principles with environmentally friendly gardening at the forefront of the growing techniques with all available waste material composted on site. We are also members of the Green Tourism Business Scheme in the Forest of Bowland AONB. In addition a small selection of interesting plants is being grown on site for sale to visitors or supply by mail order.

Suppliers for catering at events at Waddow will be:

Puddleducks Cafe, Dunsop Bridge - cakes and scones
Bolton-by-Bowland Tearooms - cakes and scones
Bashall Barn, Bashall Town - cheese
J.T.&E.Thornber, Sawley - milk
Byrne & Sons, Clitheroe - wine

Early in 2010 our website www.mailordergardening.co.uk will host a list of plants available to purchase either at the garden or by mail order.

Waddow Lodge Garden will be a new open garden situated in Waddington Lancashire in the Ribble Valley and The Forest of Bowland.

We operate a 'no smoking policy on site' for the enjoyment of all who visit.

Charity Open Days at Waddow Lodge Garden 2010

The garden will be open on two occasions this year in aid of national charities.

23rd May – Marie Curie Cancer Care

1st August – Perennial (Gardeners’ Royal Benevolent Society)

On both occasions the garden will be open from 1.00 to 5.00pm, admission £3.00 and home made refreshments will be served.

There will also be the chance to purchase plants grown in the garden, ask cultural advice from the owners and enjoy the atmosphere of this scenic part of the Forest of Bowland.

Please support us if you can in order to aid these two very worthwhile charities and we look forward to welcoming you and hope that you have an enjoyable afternoon’s visit.
